U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey's bill gives federal prosecutors another chance at death sentences

A new bill co-introduced by U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey and named for a murdered Pennsylvania federal corrections officer would give prosecutors another option to obtain death penalty sentences.Toomey, R-Lehigh Valley, and U.S. Rep. Fred Keller, R-Snyder County, have introduced Eric’s Law, which would permit federal prosecutors to impanel a second jury for sentencing in death penalty cases if the first jury does not reach a unanimous decision on a sentence.The law is named for [...]
